We are not talking here about fancy restaurant thalis. Rather we are talking about everyday home thalis that are served in households and which are simply delectable, really appetizing and a complete meal in itself.

Fortunately we have a variety of food options and each region has it’s own colourful and magnanimous thali to flaunt. Lip smacking and nutritious, surprising these thalis are a perfect amalgamation of balanced diet comprising of all nutrients, food of all colours and are a potpourri of flavors. It is difficult to resist these droolworthy thalis due to their sheer variety, authentic tastes and being complete meals.

Every day thalis at home are also mostly a combination of balanced diet comprising of all nutrients including proteins. Proteins are always one of the most important components of our food. Their importance is emphasized more now since they help in building and repairing body cells and its defense mechanism. Interestingly, The Protein Week is celebrated from 24th July to 30th July to spread awareness about the need to incorporate the essential component of protein in our diets. According to the Dietary Reference Intake report for macronutrients, a sedentary adult should consume 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight, or 0.36 grams per pound. That means that the average sedentary man should eat about 56 grams of protein per day, and the average woman should eat about 46 grams. Definitely, this intake increases for a fitness enthusiast or a pregnant and lactating mother or someone recuperating from an illness.

If you look closely you will find that traditionally these combinations of thalis are perfectly synchronized to balance each nutrient as well as flavors. Also there are new combinations being made as more experiments are now done with respect to food. For example, instead of traditional kadhi pakoda, a Gujarati kadhi or the famous Maharashtrian sabudana khichdi now finds way in a traditional North Indian Thali. So a lunch thali can be a most satisfying meal. But make sure to relish each bite, cherish each distinct flavor and savour the experience by eating mindfully!
