On the roads of any city in India, we can see electric vehicles plying, be it electric cars, the passenger 3-wheelers or the fast 2-wheelers. You may have very well experienced a modern-built 2-wheeler zooming past you with negligible sound. Widely used by logistics and delivery services, including food, grocery, courier, and parcel companies, as well as for passenger transport services. Electric two-wheelers are also being tested for shared mobility solutions, such as bike taxis and last-mile connectivity.

India is rapidly emerging as a global leader in electric mobility and is expected to become the world’s largest electric vehicle (EV) market by 2030. Over the next 8 to 10 years, the sector presents an investment opportunity exceeding $200 billion. EV adoption has already shown remarkable momentum, with registrations increasing by 168%, rising from 120,000 vehicles in 2020 to 330,000 in 2021.

The Indian EV ecosystem spans multiple segments, including electric two-wheelers (E2Ws), three-wheelers (E3Ws), four-wheelers (E4Ws), and electric buses. Among these, electric two-wheelers are particularly well-suited to India’s needs. A large and growing population, rising fuel costs, increasing environmental awareness, and the demand for affordable transportation are accelerating their adoption. India already leads the world in the manufacturing of electric two- and three-wheelers.

Initiatives like purchase subsidies, tax benefits, and investments in charging infrastructure, have actively encouraged consumers and businesses to shift toward electric mobility.

Electric Two-Wheeler Market in India

India is one of the fastest-growing markets for electric two-wheelers globally. Two-wheelers dominate the country’s automobile landscape, accounting for more than 70% of all registered vehicles. They are a practical choice for short-distance travel, particularly in congested urban areas. Notably, two-wheelers are responsible for over half of all petrol consumption transactions in the country.

Looking ahead, the outlook for the segment is extremely strong. Studies suggest that electric two-wheelers could account for more than 80% of total two-wheeler sales in India by 2030, making them a cornerstone of the country’s transition to sustainable transportation.

“2025 has been a defining year for EVeium Smart Mobility as we strengthened our position in India’s fast-growing electric two-wheeler segment through deeper localisation, product innovation, and strategic partnerships. Our commitment to manufacturing in India enabled tighter quality control, improved cost efficiency, and faster integration of advanced features across our scooters and motorcycles,” says Sameer Moidin, Founder & CEO of EVeium Smart Mobility.
